The summit features a prominent trig point and a small stone cairn, ideal for a photo opportunity as you stand at the top of the world—or at least the top of Slieve Meelmore.
The mountain is primarily composed of granite, which gives it a rugged feel, whilst the surrounding landscape features glacially shaped valleys and moraines that tell the tale of the Ice Age.
From the summit, you can gaze upon the enchanting Mourne Mountains, Carlingford Lough, and on a clear day, even the rolling hills of County Down.
The name 'Meelmore' derives from the Irish 'Méal Mór', meaning 'great bald hill', a name that conspicuously describes its rocky summit.
Slieve Meelmore is part of the Mourne Mountains which are steeped in folklore, believed to have inspired C.S. Lewis’s Narnia.
