About walking in Scotland
Scotland has some of the finest walking in Europe, from the Munros, its mountains over 3,000 feet, to sea lochs, islands and long-distance routes such as the West Highland Way. The Cairngorms National Park is the largest in the UK, and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs bring big scenery close to Glasgow.
Scotland's access rights let you walk across most land, as long as you follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Walking in the Highlands can be serious: weather turns fast, paths may be rough or absent and phone signal is patchy. Plan carefully, or start with lower hills, glens and coastal paths.
