About walking in the East of England
The East of England is gentle, open walking country with some of the biggest skies in Britain. The Norfolk coast mixes saltmarsh, dunes and pine-backed beaches, the Broads have waterside paths between windmills and villages, and the Suffolk coast is a quiet run of heaths, shingle and estuaries.
Inland, Dedham Vale follows the River Stour through Constable country, the Chilterns rise in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, and Epping Forest and Thetford Forest offer long woodland walks. The Fens of Cambridgeshire are flat, open and full of birdlife, with long riverside paths.

Questions about walking in East of England
Are there group walks in the East of England?
Yes. Walkmates currently lists 26 upcoming dated walks in East of England. Each listing shows where to meet and how to join, and you can browse them without an account.
Is the East of England good for walking?
Yes, especially if you like coast, wildlife and wide views. The terrain is mostly gentle, which makes it good for longer days without big climbs. The Norfolk and Suffolk coasts, the Broads and the Chilterns are the best-known areas.
Where can I see seals on a walk?
Blakeney Point and Horsey in Norfolk both have grey seal colonies. Pups are born at Horsey in winter: keep to the viewing areas, keep dogs on a lead and give the seals plenty of space.
