The summit is crowned with a stone cairn and offers a trig point that provides an excellent vantage point for panoramic photography. A perfect location for a well-deserved snack.
The mountain is composed mainly of volcanic rock, specifically rhyolitic and andesitic lava flows, which contribute to its rugged terrain and steep slopes. This geology creates dramatic landscapes and unique microhabitats.
From the summit, one can enjoy views of the surrounding peaks of Snowdonia, including the towering Caerneddau and the glistening Llyn Cwmorthin below.
The name 'Craig y Llyn' translates to 'Rock of the Lake', referring to the splendid lake at its foot.
The region is steeped in history, with remnants of slate mining nearby, showcasing the industrial heritage of Wales.
A popular route that offers a moderate ascent with stunning views, starting from nearby Llyn Cwmorthin.
