The summit is adorned with a large stone cairn, providing a perfect spot for a well-deserved rest. The panoramic views from the top are simply breathtaking.
Primarily composed of Torridonian sandstone, renowned for its striking layers and rugged cliffs, Beinn Eighe boasts some of Scotland's oldest rock formations, giving it a majestic and ancient appearance.
Distant peaks including Liathach and Beinn Alligin, Loch Maree shimmering below, and, on clear days, even glimpses of the Outer Hebrides in the distance.
The name 'Beinn Eighe' translates to 'Mountain of the Mist' in Gaelic, a nod to the often-clouded peaks.
Beinn Eighe is a designated nature reserve and is part of the larger Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve, significant for its unique flora and fauna.
This popular route begins at the car park on the A896 near Loch Bharranch (grid ref NG958568). Follow the well-maintained path to Coire Mhic Fhearchair, renowned for its stunning lochan and dramatic cliffs. From the corrie, ascend the loose scree gully to reach the ridge, then follow the rocky terrain to the summit of Ruadh-stac Mor. Return via the same route.
Starting at the same car park near Loch Bharranch, this route ascends via the Coire Dubh Mor path, turning west to reach the Eastern Traverse. Navigate the traverse to gain the ridge, then summit Spidean Coire nan Clach before continuing along the ridge to Ruadh-stac Mor. Descend via Coire Mhic Fhearchair for a full circular route.
Begin at Kinlochewe and follow the path to the Beinn Eighe ridge via Sail Mhor. Once on the ridge, traverse westward over the rugged terrain to reach Ruadh-stac Mor. Return by descending to Coire Mhic Fhearchair and following the path back to the starting point. This is a long, rewarding route for experienced walkers.
For a less demanding option, follow the Coire Mhic Fhearchair path from the Loch Bharranch car park to the corrie itself. While this route does not reach the summit of Ruadh-stac Mor, it offers incredible views of the corrie and surrounding peaks. Return via the same path.
This lesser-used route starts from the car park near Loch Bharranch. Head westward and ascend to the ridge via Coire nan Laogh. Once on the ridge, traverse eastward to reach Ruadh-stac Mor. Descend via Coire Mhic Fhearchair to complete the circuit.
The nearest parking is available at the car park near the Inverewe Gardens, located approximately 3 km from the mountain's base.
Regular buses operate from nearby towns such as Gairloch and Achnasheen, though the schedule may vary.
There are limited facilities; however, Kinlochewe offers small shops and a cafe where you can refuel before your hike.
