ChallengingThis popular route begins at the car park on the A896 near Loch Bharranch (grid ref NG958568). Follow the well-maintained path to Coire Mhic Fhearchair, renowned for its stunning lochan and dramatic cliffs. From the corrie, ascend the loose scree gully to reach the ridge, then follow the rocky terrain to the summit of Ruadh-stac Mor. Return via the same route.
Eastern Traverse and Spidean Coire nan Clach
Very ChallengingStarting at the same car park near Loch Bharranch, this route ascends via the Coire Dubh Mor path, turning west to reach the Eastern Traverse. Navigate the traverse to gain the ridge, then summit Spidean Coire nan Clach before continuing along the ridge to Ruadh-stac Mor. Descend via Coire Mhic Fhearchair for a full circular route.
Kinlochewe Circuit via Sail Mhor
SevereBegin at Kinlochewe and follow the path to the Beinn Eighe ridge via Sail Mhor. Once on the ridge, traverse westward over the rugged terrain to reach Ruadh-stac Mor. Return by descending to Coire Mhic Fhearchair and following the path back to the starting point. This is a long, rewarding route for experienced walkers.
Short Coire Mhic Fhearchair Out-and-Back
ModerateFor a less demanding option, follow the Coire Mhic Fhearchair path from the Loch Bharranch car park to the corrie itself. While this route does not reach the summit of Ruadh-stac Mor, it offers incredible views of the corrie and surrounding peaks. Return via the same path.
Western Ridge Approach
ChallengingThis lesser-used route starts from the car park near Loch Bharranch. Head westward and ascend to the ridge via Coire nan Laogh. Once on the ridge, traverse eastward to reach Ruadh-stac Mor. Descend via Coire Mhic Fhearchair to complete the circuit.
