Standard Route via Kinlochewe and Gleann Bianasdail
ChallengingThis is the most popular and well-trodden route up Slioch, starting from the car park at Incheril near Kinlochewe. The route follows a good path along the shore of Loch Maree, before ascending through Gleann Bianasdail. After crossing the river, the path climbs steeply to the ridge of Sgurr Dubh, offering stunning views of Loch Maree and the Torridon mountains. The final ascent involves some rocky terrain to reach the summit of Slioch.
Circular Route via Gleann na Muice and Lochan Fada
Very ChallengingThis alternative circular route begins at the same starting point in Kinlochewe and heads into the remote Gleann na Muice. It passes the beautiful Lochan Fada before ascending Slioch from the north side. This route provides a quieter and less-travelled approach to the summit, with opportunities to spot wildlife and enjoy a sense of solitude. The descent follows the standard route back to Kinlochewe.
Shorter Out-and-Back Route via Gleann Bianasdail
ChallengingFor those seeking a slightly shorter day, this route avoids the full circuit and focuses on an out-and-back ascent via Gleann Bianasdail. Starting from Kinlochewe, the route heads straight up to the summit of Slioch and returns by the same path, still providing spectacular views and a rewarding climb without the added distance of a circuit.
Winter Ascent via Standard Route
Very ChallengingThis is the winter variation of the standard route via Kinlochewe and Gleann Bianasdail. Snow and ice conditions can make the ascent much more demanding, requiring the use of crampons and an ice axe. The ridge and summit areas can be particularly tricky in winter conditions, but the views of a snow-covered Torridon landscape are unforgettable.
Wild Camping Expedition with Slioch Ascent
Very ChallengingThis two-day route starts from Kinlochewe and incorporates an overnight wild camp near Lochan Fada. After setting up camp, the ascent of Slioch is undertaken with a lighter pack, allowing for a more relaxed pace. This route is perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in the wild surroundings and enjoy the mountain at sunrise or sunset.
