Slieve Binnian North Tor
Nestled in the fabulous Mourne Mountains, Slieve Binnian North Tor stands tall at 747 meters. This Marilyn not only boasts impressive elevation but also offers stunning views that will take your breath away—if the climb doesn't first!
Geology
The mountain is primarily composed of granite, a resilient material that has withstood the test of time. The rugged landscape we see today was sculpted during the last ice age, providing hikers with awe-inspiring rocky outcrops and challenging terrain. It’s as if Mother Nature took a chisel to the rock—artistry at its finest!
Routes
One of the most popular approaches to the summit is the Hares Gap Route. This moderate climb of 6.5 km generally takes about 3.5 hours, making it a great way to spend an afternoon. Just don’t forget to pace yourself unless you want to make a friend out of that rock!
Summit Features
At the peak, you’ll find a prominent cairn—a traditional marker made of piled stones. It’s a wonderful spot to rest your legs, snap a few photos, and maybe contemplate the meaning of life... or just what’s for dinner.
