The summit boasts a prominent cairn and a stunning panoramic view that will make you feel on top of the world—just don't try to order a coffee up there!
Belig is predominantly composed of granite and gneiss, typical of the Scottish Highlands, showcasing the dramatic geology that has formed over millennia. The rock formations can be quite mystical, as though giants played with boulders during their tea breaks.
From the top, one can see the sweeping landscape of Loch Hourn and the jagged peaks of the surrounding mountains, including the mighty Knoydart.
The name 'Belig' is believed to stem from the Gaelic 'Beileag', meaning 'little mouth' or 'opening', possibly referring to the shape of the mountain.
Belig is nestled in an area steeped in local folklore and history, with tales of ancient clans and mythical creatures lurking in its glens.
This walk starts at the village of Kinloch Hourn, meandering through scenic glens before a steady ascent to the summit, offering breathtaking views all the way.
Parking is available at Kinloch Hourn (Grid Reference NG 564 239) with limited spaces. Arrive early to secure a spot.
Buses run from Fort William to Invergarry, where you may find further connections to nearby villages. However, a car is most convenient for reaching Kinloch Hourn.
