At the Summit

The summit is adorned with a small, sturdy cairn that serves as a perfect picnic spot, granting ample opportunity for triumphant selfies and social media bragging rights.

Terrain & Geology

A mix of rocky outcrops and grassy slopes interspersed with boggy patches especially after rain. Bring appropriate footwear unless you fancy a surprise foot bath!

The mountain is primarily composed of Lewisian gneiss, one of the oldest rocks in the UK, dating back over 3 billion years. This ancient geology makes for some fascinating rugged landscapes.

From here, ascend steeply to the prominent rock cleft known as An Dorus ('The Door'). A short scramble leads to the summit of Sgurr a' Ghreadaidh, offering spectacular views of the Cuillin Ridge. Return via the same route.

Starting at the Glen Brittle Memorial Hut, follow the path to Coire Lagan before ascending steep scree to the ridge. Traverse the ridge to Sgurr a' Ghreadaidh, navigating exposed scrambling sections. Descend via An Dorus and return to the starting point.

Approach via Coire Banachdich, a quieter alternative to the popular Coire a' Ghreadaidh. From the corrie, ascend to the ridge and head north, tackling some scrambling sections to reach the summit of Sgurr a' Ghreadaidh. The return route retraces your steps.

Very Challenging

A more adventurous route starting at Glen Brittle campsite. Ascend to Sgurr Thuilm first, then traverse the ridge southwards over exposed and technical terrain to reach Sgurr a' Ghreadaidh. Descend via An Dorus to complete the loop.

Very Challenging

This popular route combines Sgurr a' Ghreadaidh and its neighbouring peak, Sgurr a' Mhadaidh. Starting at Glen Brittle campsite, follow the Coire a' Ghreadaidh path to An Dorus, summiting both peaks in one outing. Descend back through Coire a' Ghreadaidh.

Parking available at Glen Brittle, just off the A87. Ensure to arrive early in peak season as spaces can fill up quickly.
