Traverse via Sgurr Sgumain
Very HardThis route begins at the Glenbrittle Campsite and follows the same path into Coire Lagan. From there, ascend via Sgùrr Sgumain before continuing to Sgùrr Alasdair. This is a more technical route and involves scrambling over rocky terrain, but rewards climbers with stunning views and a sense of accomplishment.
Coire a' Ghrunnda Approach
HardThis alternative route starts at Glenbrittle and heads into Coire a’ Ghrunnda. The ascent involves negotiating boulder fields and steep terrain before joining the Great Stone Chute for the final push to the summit. This route is slightly longer but avoids the initial scree of the Coire Lagan approach.
Cuillin Ridge Traverse (Sgùrr Alasdair Section)
ExtremeFor experienced climbers, tackling Sgùrr Alasdair as part of a full Cuillin Ridge Traverse is an unforgettable challenge. Starting from either Sligachan or Glenbrittle, this route involves significant exposure and technical climbing. The section involving Sgùrr Alasdair is particularly demanding but immensely rewarding.
Sgùrr Alasdair from Loch Coruisk
Very HardAccessed by boat or a long hike from Elgol, this route approaches Sgùrr Alasdair from Loch Coruisk. Ascend via Coire a’ Ghrunnda before tackling the Great Stone Chute or an alternative ridge line. This route is remote and adds a sense of adventure to the climb.
