The summit is marked by a prominent trig point, standing resolutely against the elements. Surrounding the point are rugged outcrops offering excellent photo opportunities.
Yr Eifl is primarily composed of volcanic rock, part of the broader geological history of the region which includes features from various geological periods. The striking cliffs and crags are a testament to its volcanic origins, giving the landscape a stark yet beautiful appearance.
From the summit, you can see the spectacular coastline of the LLŷn Peninsula, Snowdonia in the distance, and even the distant outline of the Isle of Anglesey on a clear day.

This popular circular route starts from the village of Llithfaen and ascends Yr Eifl via a well-trodden path. The route takes you through the historical Tre'r Ceiri hillfort, one of the best-preserved Iron Age fortifications in Britain. After exploring the hillfort, the route continues to the summit of Yr Eifl, offering panoramic views of the Llŷn Peninsula and beyond. The descent loops back to Llithfaen via grassy paths and quiet tracks.
Starting from the Welsh Language and Heritage Centre at Nant Gwrtheyrn, this route provides a steep but rewarding ascent of Yr Eifl. The climb offers dramatic coastal scenery, with views over the Irish Sea. On the descent, the route diverts to visit Tre'r Ceiri hillfort before returning to Nant Gwrtheyrn via a scenic path through the valley.
This shorter but steeper route takes you directly to the summit of Yr Eifl via Garn Ganol, the highest of the three peaks in the Yr Eifl range. Starting in Llithfaen, the path is straightforward but involves a sustained climb. The summit offers breathtaking 360-degree views, including Snowdonia, Anglesey, and the Irish Sea. The return is via the same path.
This linear route follows the ridge of Yr Eifl, traversing its three main peaks: Garn Ganol, Garn Fôr, and Tre'r Ceiri. Starting from Llithfaen, the route climbs to Garn Ganol before continuing to Garn Fôr, the most westerly peak, which overlooks the coast. The return leg visits Tre'r Ceiri hillfort before descending back to Llithfaen.
This varied route begins in the small hamlet of Pistyll, combining coastal and mountain scenery. The path initially follows the Wales Coast Path, offering stunning views of the cliffs and sea, before turning inland to ascend Yr Eifl. After reaching the summit, the route loops back to Pistyll via quieter trails through moorland and farmland.
There is parking available in Llithfaen village, which is just a short walk to the trailhead. Be considerate of local residents when parking.
Limited bus services run from Pwllheli to Llithfaen, but it is advisable to check current schedules, as they may vary.
