This popular route begins at the parking area near Marchlyn Mawr reservoir. The route follows a clear path climbing steadily alongside the reservoir before ascending steeply to the summit of Elidir Fawr. Enjoy panoramic views over Snowdonia and across the Menai Strait to Anglesey.
Starting from the Deiniolen area, this circular route takes in both Elidir Fawr and the neighbouring peak of Carnedd y Filiast. The path ascends Elidir Fawr first, with its impressive rocky terrain, before heading towards Carnedd y Filiast and descending back to the start point.
This classic approach begins in the village of Nant Peris and follows a steep and direct route up the southern slopes of Elidir Fawr. The ascent is demanding but offers stunning views over the Llanberis Pass and beyond. Descend via the same path or opt for a loop if time permits.
A longer and more adventurous route, this hike starts at Ogwen Cottage and ascends Y Garn via the famous Devil's Kitchen before continuing to Elidir Fawr. The route offers dramatic views and rugged terrain, perfect for experienced hillwalkers.
This extended ridge walk begins in Llanberis and takes in Elidir Fawr as part of a longer day out. The route climbs steadily from the village, traversing scenic ridgelines with excellent views of the surrounding peaks and valleys before descending back to Llanberis.
The closest parking is available at the base of the mountain near the Dinorwig slate quarry, with spaces for several vehicles.
