The summit is crowned with a sizeable cairn, providing an excellent photo opportunity. There’s also a trig point that serves as a reminder of the heights you’ve just conquered.
Primarily composed of Devonian granite, Ryder's Hill showcases classic Dartmoor rock formations, including rugged tors and dramatic outcrops. The landscape features typical Dartmoor granite with interesting weathered shapes.
From the summit, you can view the sprawling Dartmoor landscapes, the River Dart, and on a clear day, you might even spot the coast in the distance.
The origin of the name 'Ryder' is thought to be derived from the Old English word 'rider' or could refer to the historical use of the hill by riders crossing Dartmoor.
