This popular route begins at Ogwen Cottage near Llyn Ogwen (grid ref SH649604). Follow the well-marked path towards Llyn Idwal, then ascend via the Devil's Kitchen (Twll Du) to reach the summit of Y Garn. Descend towards Llyn y Cwn, then loop back to the starting point via the lower slopes of Glyder Fawr. The route offers dramatic views of Snowdonia's rugged peaks and glacial lakes.

Y Garn via the North-East Ridge

Starting from Ogwen Cottage (grid ref SH649604), this route takes a more direct ascent via the steep North-East Ridge. The climb requires a good level of fitness and involves some scrambling. Once at the summit, enjoy panoramic views of the Glyderau range and descend via the same path or opt for a circular return through Cwm Idwal.

Y Garn and Glyder Fawr Traverse

This longer traverse begins at Ogwen Cottage (grid ref SH649604) and combines Y Garn with Glyder Fawr. Ascend Y Garn via the Llyn Idwal path and Devil's Kitchen. From Y Garn, continue along the ridge to Glyder Fawr, descending via the Miner's Track to Llyn Idwal. This is a demanding but rewarding route with spectacular scenery throughout.

This route is well-suited to those looking for a varied hike with manageable gradients.

Y Garn via Cwm Clyd

This quieter route starts from the Nant Peris car park (grid ref SH607582). Follow the path up through Cwm Clyd, a serene valley less crowded than the Ogwen side. Ascend Y Garn from the western slope, taking in the peaceful surroundings. Descend via the same route or continue to link up with other peaks in the Glyderau range.
