The summit is adorned with a substantial cairn, which is both a marker and a location for those victorious ‘at the top’ photos. The panoramic views make it a popular spot for a well-earned snack.
Meall Liath Choire predominantly features granite with some schist, characteristic of the Highland landscape. The weathered rock gives climb paths that mix smooth stretches with the occasional challenge of rock scrambling.
On a clear day, you can see Ben Nevis, the tallest peak in the UK, and the sprawling beauty of the Cairngorms to the east.
Meall Liath Choire means 'Hill of the Grey Hollow'. This nods to both the colour of rocky outcrops and the dips in the terrain.
