At the Summit

The summit features a sizeable stone cairn and a trig point, perfect for that 'I've been here' selfie!

Terrain & Geology

Grassy with some rocky outcrops and patches of bog so be prepared for a bit of a squelch!

The mountain is primarily composed of volcanic rock from the Borrowdale Volcanic Group, which formed in the Early Silurian period. Expect some intriguing formations and, if you're lucky, a glimpse of the occasional seismic event... just kidding!

Views & Scenery

Spectacular views over the West Cumbrian Fells, Wastwater, and, on a clear day, even the Isle of Man!

History & Heritage

Name Origin

Knott is derived from the Old Norse word 'knottr', meaning 'hill' or 'small hill', which is quite to the point if you ask me!

Historical Significance

Part of the iconic Lake District landscape, Knott has long been celebrated by walkers and climbers alike, and is often included on many popular Lake District routes.

Getting There & Facilities

Parking

Wasdale Head car park (national trust) has ample space but fills up quickly on sunny days. Arrive early, or you might find yourself competing with sheep for a parking spot!

Limited public transport options. The nearest bus service runs from Keswick to Wasdale Head, but check schedules, as they can be erratic.

Nearby Facilities

No facilities on the mountain itself, but Wasdale Head has a pub where you can quench your thirst after your hike or enjoy some local grub!
