This iconic route begins from the car park near Scales and passes by Scales Tarn, a picturesque mountain lake. From there, the route climbs the famous Sharp Edge, a narrow, exposed ridge that requires careful scrambling. This route is not suitable for those with a fear of heights or in poor weather but is incredibly rewarding for adventurous walkers.
A gentler and less exposed ascent, this route starts from the Blencathra Centre near Threlkeld and climbs steadily up the western slopes via Blease Fell. This is a great option for those looking for a less intimidating way to reach the summit while still enjoying fantastic views.
This longer and quieter route starts near Mungrisdale and takes in the gentle slopes of Mungrisdale Common before ascending to Blencathra’s summit. The route offers a more solitary experience and showcases the wilder side of the mountain.
This alternative ridge route begins from Threlkeld and ascends via the Gategill Fell Ridge. It is less exposed than Halls Fell or Sharp Edge but still offers a scenic and exciting approach to the summit. The ridge provides excellent views of the surrounding valleys.
Parking is available at the Scales, a small car park conveniently located off the A66, but get there early as it fills up quick on sunny days.
