Carrickgollogan is primarily composed of granite and schist, providing excellent footing for walkers and a robust landscape. The geological history reflects the region's glacial past, with smooth features made from icy sculpting.
From the summit, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Dublin Bay, the Irish Sea, and the surrounding Wicklow Mountains. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland.
The name Carrickgollogan is believed to derive from the Irish 'Carraig gualann', meaning 'rock of the black hill'.
