The summit boasts a well-constructed cairn, which offers a delightful photo opportunity. Look out for the occasional sheep who may be posing for pictures!
Tonduff is primarily composed of sandstone and mudstone, typical of the sedimentary rock formations found in the Brecon Beacons. These rocks have been shaped by glacial activity, giving the area a rugged terrain.
From the summit, one can spot the wonders of the Brecon Beacons, including Pen y Fan, flat-topped and proud, and the sprawling farmland below.
The name 'Tonduff' likely derives from Welsh, meaning 'dark hill,' fitting given the often brooding clouds that grace its summit.
Tonduff has long been a favourite among local walkers and offers a significant chunk of history within the tangible landscapes of the Brecon Beacons.
A scenic circular route starting at the Grwyne Fawr Reservoir, taking hikers through lush valleys and past stunning views.
This slightly longer route offers breath-stealing views of the Black Mountains and the River Usk.
Parking is available at the Grwyne Fawr Reservoir car park. It can accommodate a fair number of vehicles but arrive early to nab the best spots on busy weekends.
Public transport options are limited. The nearest bus services run from Abergavenny, with a walk from the service stop to the reservoir.
There are limited facilities so pack a picnic; however, Abergavenny has several cafes, restaurants, and public toilets.
