About this walk
Beinn Ime from Succoth
This is the standard and most direct route to Beinn Ime, the highest hill in the Arrochar Alps. Starting from Succoth at the head of Loch Long, it follows a well-built path deep into the hills before a steeper final climb to a broad, stony summit.
From the roadside parking at Succoth, the path heads west, crossing the railway and following a clear track into Glen Loin. The walking here is easy and well surfaced, with a steady, gradual gain in height as the glen narrows and the surrounding hills rise sharply on either side.
After crossing the Allt a’ Bhalachain, the route begins to climb more decisively. The path zigzags up the hillside, gaining height quickly but never becoming technical. As you climb, views open back down Glen Loin to Loch Long, with the Cobbler and Beinn Narnain standing prominently to the south.
Higher up, the path reaches a broad bealach between Beinn Ime and Beinn Narnain. This is a natural decision point, but this route turns north, leaving Beinn Narnain aside and continuing directly towards Beinn Ime. The final ascent is over rougher, rockier ground, but the gradient eases as the summit plateau is reached.
The summit of Beinn Ime is wide and open, marked by a large cairn. At 1011 metres it offers expansive views in all directions, taking in Loch Lomond, the Southern Highlands, the Arrochar Alps and, on clear days, distant peaks further north and west.
The return is by the same route, retracing the path back through the bealach and down Glen Loin to Succoth. Despite being an out-and-back walk, the changing perspective on the descent keeps it interesting, with constant views towards Loch Long and the surrounding hills.
This is a demanding hill day with significant ascent, so brace yourself. As with all high level walks, you should be equip with the correct skills and tools to make sure you can navigate safely even in poor conditions.

What does the organiser do?

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
