Walna Scar is predominantly composed of Skiddaw slate, a sedimentary rock that has been shaped by glacial activity, giving the summit its distinctive rugged features. It's a fine example of how geological processes can forge beautiful landscapes over millennia.
From the summit, you can feast your eyes on the stunning landscape of the Coniston Fells, alongside the vast expanse of Coniston Water shimmering below. On a clear day, the peaks of the Langdales and even as far as Morecambe Bay can also be seen.
The name 'Walna Scar' is derived from the Old Norse word 'skar', meaning a shelf or ledge, which aptly describes its flat-topped summit.
