About this walk
Start at the public Railway Walk car park off Bratch Lane, beside the former Wombourne station. Use the short footpath at the northern end of the car park to join the old railway bed, then turn north. Follow the main Railway Walk past Orton and Lower Penn, crossing Flash Lane, Blackpit Lane and Penstone Lane on the old railway bridges. Continue through the wooded cutting and the former Penn Halt area to just beyond the bridge beneath Langley Road at Castlecroft. Turn back here and return along the same railway path to the car park.
The former railway makes a mostly level out-and-back through a green corridor of trees, scrub and neighbouring farmland. Stay on the main shared walking and cycling trail at side ramps and junctions. Allow about two hours for about 6.3 kilometres, with time for brief stops. Surfaces vary and can hold mud or puddles after rain; take suitable walking shoes and watch for cyclists. There are no hill climbs or field stiles on this route.
The Platform eatery occupies the old station near the start and lists Tuesday to Sunday opening, from 10am with last orders at 2.30pm. Check current opening and the car park signs before setting out, including any gate closing time. Use the public parking area rather than the eatery customer spaces.
Route and access checked against South Staffordshire Council material and its mapped Railway Walk corridor, Wombourne Parish Council information and the AA Wombourne walking route. This walk stays north of the station, outside the southern resurfacing sections described in the council notices. Follow any new signs or temporary closures on site.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
