About this walk

A short circuit through Baggeridge Country Park, linking Bag Pool, the Wishing Pools and the wooded paths around the amphitheatre. The mapped walk is about 2.4 kilometres. Allow an hour to an hour and a quarter with pool-side stops; walking alone takes around 40–50 minutes because some paths are uneven and include steps.

Start at the main public pay-and-display parking area near Bag Pool, reached through the park entrance at Gospel End. Join the walking path beside Bag Pool and head southwest on the established tracks and Circular footpath towards the Wishing Pools. Follow the pool-side paths to the lower end of the Wishing Pools, then return north through the woodland and amphitheatre-side paths to the main parking area. The short approach from the car park is shared on the way back.

This former colliery landscape is now a country park with woods, water and open ground. Stay on the walking paths and follow the saved map at junctions; the dedicated mountain-bike trail is a separate activity route. Expect muddy patches, roots and steps, especially in the woodland and around the pools. Wear footwear with grip, keep back from water edges and follow temporary diversions. This circuit is not the park’s easy-access trail and should not be treated as a wheelchair route.

Parking is charged. The council currently offers pay-and-display machines and PayByPhone; arrange mobile payment in advance if using it, because reception can vary. Check the entrance board for seasonal gate times and return before closing. Toilets and the tea room are near the main facilities, subject to their opening hours. Bring water, and keep dogs under control around wildlife and other visitors.

Planning reference: South Staffordshire Council’s Baggeridge Country Park trails leaflet, current visitor page and parking information. This circuit uses the park’s established Circular and connecting woodland paths. Check the operator’s latest notices before travelling. https://www.sstaffs.gov.uk/baggeridge-country-park/visit-baggeridge-country-park

Joining a walk

A few things to know before you make plans.

Can I join if no one else is going?

You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.

What if there is no date yet?

Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.

What does the organiser do?

The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.

Can I walk this route on my own?

Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.

What happens after I join?

Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.

How do I confirm plans with the group?

Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
