About this walk
Start at the main Wandlebury Country Park car park, reached from the signed entrance off the A1307. This walk combines the park woodland and meadow paths with an out-and-back along the western Roman Road. Follow the western edge of the park north past the Iron Age ring ditch, then continue around the northern meadow by Banyard Wildlife Hide and the views towards Ely. Take the woodland paths east to the long beech avenue and Wool Street, going around Woolstreet Cottage on the public path to reach the Roman Road.
Turn left along the broad Roman Road track and follow the chalk ridge north-west to its northern end at Worts Causeway. Turn back before entering the road. Retrace the Roman Road to the Wandlebury junction and return down Wool Street, then use the southern meadow and woodland paths to complete the park loop back to the car park. The route stays north of the A1307 throughout and does not require crossing the dual carriageway.
Allow about 2 hours 30 minutes for the 7.5km route, including short stops at the viewpoints. Expect gently rolling ground, unsurfaced paths, roots and slippery mud after rain. The Roman Road is shared with horses and cyclists, and vehicles may use park drives. Keep dogs on leads in Wandlebury and give grazing livestock space.
The park and car park open dawn to dusk. Entry is free; current parking charges are £3.50 Monday to Friday and £4.39 at weekends and bank holidays, paid by card. Blue badge parking is free. Toilets and picnic benches are available; pop-up cafes operate seasonally, so bring water and do not depend on them. Ring wall repair works were announced for 2026: follow on-site barriers and wardens instructions rather than entering any works area.
Route and visitor information checked against Cambridge Past, Present & Future visitor guide and walking pages, and the Friends of the Roman Road and Fleam Dyke Roman Road leaflet and route updates.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
