About this walk
Start at the pedestrian exit of the National Trust car park at Sheringham Park, off the A148/B1157 junction. Follow the path to the visitor centre, then take the signed red route down Heartbreak Hill to the valley path. This circuit follows the whole inland Active Trail through Weybourne Heath and back across Repton’s parkland.
Walk past the former sawmill and sweet chestnut trees. At the fork near the pond, follow the orange arrow left towards Toad Alley, then cross the stream and pass the barrier onto Weybourne Heath. The trail turns through the pines, climbs gently and loops around the gorse and woodland. There are views towards Weybourne village, its windmill and the sea, with bluebells in the woods in spring. Keep to the marked inland trail.
Go through the gate into the main park, with Sheringham Hall to the left. Turn right up the surfaced drive, use the pedestrian gate beside the cattle grid and follow the drive back through the Wild Garden, past the viewing tower and Ling Hut. Return past the visitor centre to the car park.
Allow about two hours at a steady walking pace with brief stops. The route has steep gradients, roots and uneven natural paths which can be muddy. Toilets and the Courtyard Café are at the visitor centre; check opening times. The park opens dawn to dusk. Parking is currently £6.50 for non-members and free for National Trust members. Keep dogs on leads in marked areas and throughout the estate from 1 March to 31 July.
Route based on the National Trust’s current Sheringham Park 5k Active Trail and estate map.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
