About this walk

Start at the map boards beside Felbrigg Hall’s main visitor car park, near Cromer. This estate circuit links St Margaret’s Church, Felbrigg Lake, the woodland boundary and the ice house before returning down the left arm of the Victory V beech avenues. Allow about two hours at an unhurried pace, including stops at the church, lake and historic features.

Take the surfaced path through the iron gate towards the church. Use the small gate beside the churchyard wall, cross the pasture on the path to the right and continue through the kissing gates towards the lake. Keep beside the lake, then follow the woodland path and boardwalk uphill. Continue along the boundary route rather than taking the shortcut back to the hall. Beyond the small satellite car park, follow the short road approach towards the white house and turn into Great Wood. The ice house comes before the Victory V junction; take the left avenue downhill to return to the main car park.

The estate has gravel, grass and compacted-earth paths, gates and some steep slopes. Mud, exposed roots and slippery boardwalks are possible after rain. The lake is deep. Keep to the paths, close gates and keep dogs controlled around grazing animals. Dogs must be on leads throughout the estate from 1 March to 31 July and in the designated areas shown on the estate map throughout the year.

The parkland is open dawn to dusk. Estate access is free; main car park charges are £5 for non-members, with free parking for National Trust members who check in. Follow the brown road signs for Felbrigg Hall rather than relying on a village postcode. Toilets and the Squire’s Pantry tea-room are near the hall, with their own opening hours. Mobile reception can be poor.

Route and access information checked against the National Trust’s Felbrigg church and ice house walk and current Felbrigg visitor information: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/norfolk/felbrigg-hall-gardens-and-estate/felbrigg-church-and-ice-house-walk . Check the Trust’s latest notices and on-site signs before setting out.

Joining a walk

A few things to know before you make plans.

Can I join if no one else is going?

You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.

What if there is no date yet?

Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.

What does the organiser do?

The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.

Can I walk this route on my own?

Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.

What happens after I join?

Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.

How do I confirm plans with the group?

Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
