About this walk
A circular Norfolk estate walk from Holkham Park main visitor car park, following the full Blue walking and cycling circuit through the southern park. Allow about 2 hours 15 minutes for the roughly 6.7 km route, with time to pause at the landmarks. The walk stays inside the park and does not use the beach or the closed north end of the lake walk.
From the car park entrance, head east along Golden Gates Drive. Follow the estate drive south past the Palmer's Lodge area, then turn west onto Great Barn Road. The road curves through open farmland to the Great Barn before meeting the South Drive. Turn north and climb gently towards the Obelisk, then continue past the Ice House and along the front of Holkham Hall. Views towards the south end of the lake and the Hall complete the return to the visitor car park. Follow the Blue route signs and use the pedestrian gates beside cattle grids.
Expect tarmac estate roads and gravel farm tracks, with gentle rises and some uneven ground. This is a working estate, so watch for vehicles and cyclists at junctions. Give the free-roaming deer plenty of space, particularly during the autumn rut. Dogs must stay on a short lead and under close control, and neither dogs nor people may enter the lake. The courtyard café and toilets are near the start and finish; access inside the Hall and Walled Garden requires separate tickets.
Park at the main Holkham Park visitor car park, reached through the North Gates using NR23 1RH, then follow the estate signs to the Hall parking. The parking operator currently lists 9am to 5pm daily and £6.50 for the day, payable to attendants by cash or card. Finish before the park closes. Check Holkham's opening times and local signs before travelling, including the current closure at the north end of the lake.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
