About this walk

A complete inland circuit of Ringstead's old lanes and the open farmland around Courtyard Farm, following the council's seven-mile Ringstead Circular Walk. Start at the designated walkers' parking by the junction of The Slip and the Thornham Road track, south-east of the farm. Use the designated walking parking and leave farm access clear. Carry water and allow about three hours and fifteen minutes for the whole circuit and short stops.

Walk south-west along the Thornham Road track, crossing Docking Road with care, then continue down the long field-edge lane to the junction with Peddars Way. Turn right and follow this old Roman-road line north to Ringstead, crossing Docking Road and reaching the Burnham Road junction. Turn left towards the village and follow High Street past the old school and St Andrew's Church. At the north end of the village turn right along Holme Road, then left into Peddars Way North. Leave it at Green Bank and follow the unsurfaced lane east. At the far end cross the Thornham Road lane to continue south-east on the public byway, with wide views across fields and shelter belts. Near Burnham Road follow the signed path along the field edge to the crossing onto the returning track. Continue south past Wharton's Belt and back to the starting junction.

Expect gently rolling ground, grassy and muddy tracks, roots and some surfaced village lanes. Peddars Way North includes a stretch without pavement; share the lane carefully with traffic and take particular care at the road crossings. Keep dogs under close control and on the paths, away from crops and nesting birds. Ringstead has a shop and the Gin Trap Inn, subject to opening hours; plan any refreshments stop in the village. Check local signs for access and farm work before setting out.

Joining a walk

A few things to know before you make plans.

Can I join if no one else is going?

You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.

What if there is no date yet?

Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.

What does the organiser do?

The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.

Can I walk this route on my own?

Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.

What happens after I join?

Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.

How do I confirm plans with the group?

Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
