About this walk

Start at the Coker's Hill entrance to Old Mill pay-and-display car park in Little Walsingham. This countryside circuit follows Norfolk County Council's Waterden Lane and Pilgrims' Way walk, with the start moved to the car park's western access. Allow about two hours at a steady sightseeing pace, including a short pause at the Slipper Chapel. Longer shrine or museum visits need extra time.

Walk down Coker's Hill and turn up Station Road, passing the former railway station and its Orthodox chapel dome. Continue along the old Market Way track to Egmere Road, then take Waterden Lane. Follow this hedge-lined bridleway through the farm buildings and along the rolling fields. At the western end of the public bridleway, take the signed permissive field-edge route south to Stanton's Track. Keep to the indicated field margins rather than crossing crops. Turn left down the farm track, pass beneath the former railway bridge, then turn right onto Barsham Road towards the Slipper Chapel entrance.

Retrace the short stretch of lane to the concrete farm track leading to Pilgrims' Way. Follow the surfaced former railway line north-east, crossing the bridge above Stanton's Track. At the end of the path turn right onto Blind Dick's Lane, then left along Back Lane behind the friary remains. Continue to Coker's Hill and return to the car park.

Expect gentle rises, grassy field margins, rutted farm tracks and short stretches of narrow lanes without pavements. Waterden Lane and Stanton's Track can be muddy after rain. Take care at the Egmere Road junction and on Barsham Road; farm vehicles, cycles and horses may share parts of the route. Keep dogs on leads around livestock. The estate's permissive sections may close temporarily for farming or shooting: follow local notices and turn back if a section is closed. The route uses the railway-path bridge and avoids the road ford.

Little Walsingham has shops, pubs, cafes and public toilets on High Street. The Slipper Chapel complex has refreshments and toilets when open. Parking charges apply; check the car-park signs on arrival. What if there is no date yet?

Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.

What does the organiser do?

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.

Can I walk this route on my own?

How do I confirm plans with the group?

Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
