About this walk
A 4.1 km circuit in Weald Country Park near Brentwood, linking the lakeside paths with Chestnut Avenue and the open parkland beside Tea Cup Pond. Allow about an hour and a half, including time to pause by the water and look at the old avenue. The route has gentle climbs and uses a mixture of surfaced paths, woodland paths and grassy tracks.
Start inside the Visitor Centre car park, near the café. Follow the park path north beside the main lake, then continue towards the woodland and Chestnut Avenue. Walk north along the avenue, turn west on the woodland cross-path, and return southwest through the parkland towards Tea Cup Pond. The southern path brings you back to the lakeside and the Visitor Centre. Follow the plotted circuit at the junctions; it combines established paths shown on the park’s Discovery Trail map.
Park entry is free, with paid parking. The parking machines take card or contactless payment, and MiPermit is available; do not rely on cash. The park opens at 8am and closes at dusk, so check the current gate time before leaving your car. The café and toilets are close to the start, with their own opening hours.
The grass paths can become muddy after rain, and wet leaves can be slippery in the woods. Wear suitable walking shoes and keep away from the water’s edge. Some paths are shared with horses and cyclists: give them space. Keep dogs under control and follow the signs around the deer enclosure and any grazing areas. Observe wildlife from a distance and avoid feeding it. Use the signed diversions if park work affects a path.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
