About this walk

A compact circuit through the eastern side of Park Hall Country Park, beginning at Bolton Gate. Pine woods, sandy paths, open heath and the northern meadow give this walk plenty of variety in about 2.4 kilometres. Allow an hour to an hour and a quarter with pauses for the scenery; steady walking takes around 40 minutes.

Start at Bolton Gate car park, reached from the A520 Leek Road opposite Weston Heights. Follow the established path north along the eastern side of Pump Tree Wood and the park boundary. Continue around the northern meadow, then turn south on the woodland path towards the former visitor-centre area east of Hulme Road. Return southeast through the meadow and woodland paths to Bolton Gate. The route stays within the park and does not require crossing the A520 or Hulme Road.

This is a landscape shaped by former sand and gravel quarrying. Keep to the established paths and marked viewpoints; do not climb canyon faces or take shortcuts down steep banks. The council’s walking leaflet warns of steep inclines and rough tracks. Sandy slopes, roots and mud can all reduce grip, so wear suitable footwear and allow extra time in wet weather. Give other visitors room and follow any temporary closure signs.

Use the public Bolton Gate car park and check the entrance signs for any current restrictions and closing arrangements. Bring water and refreshments. The council’s current park listing says there are no toilets, so plan accordingly; old walking maps showing toilet facilities should not be relied on. Keep dogs under control and observe reserve signs.

Planning reference: Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Park Hall Country Park waymarked-walks leaflet and current visitor page. This circuit combines established paths in the Pine Tree Walk area, with the mapped return through the meadows. Joining a walk

A few things to know before you make plans.

Can I join if no one else is going?

You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.

What if there is no date yet?

Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.

What does the organiser do?

The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.

Can I walk this route on my own?

Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.

What happens after I join?

Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.

How do I confirm plans with the group?

Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
