About this walk
Start at the North Dock public car park beside St. Elli's Bay and the Discovery Centre. Take the Millennium Coastal Path east across the River Lliedi near the old tidal dock entrance, then follow the shoreline south towards Machynys. Stay on the shared coastal path as it curves around the southern tip of Machynys Point, with views across the Loughor estuary towards the north Gower coast and Whiteford Burrows.
Continue around the outside of the golf course, turning north and then east on the waymarked coastal path. Follow it to the public approach to Llanelli Wetland Centre, where the path meets the centre access. This is the turnaround. Retrace the same shoreline route via Machynys Point and the Lliedi crossing to North Dock. The walk remains on the established landward shared path; no beach or saltmarsh crossing is needed.
Allow around three and a half hours, with time for brief stops. The route is mainly level, surfaced walking and cycling path with gentle slopes. It is open to wind and rain, with limited shelter on the peninsula. Watch for cyclists and keep clear of the golf course and reserve-only paths. Carry water and use the landward route even when the foreshore looks inviting.
North Dock is council pay-and-display short-stay parking, with a four-hour maximum: check the current signs and leave enough time to return. St. Elli's Bay has refreshments and toilets during opening hours. The Wetland Centre is a separate optional visit, with admission to the reserve and seasonal opening days. It currently closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during September and October, apart from half-term; check WWT before relying on its cafe or toilets. Dogs are not allowed inside the centre except trained assistance dogs.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
