About this walk

Follow the Millennium Coastal Path from Llanelli’s North Dock to the eastern side of Burry Port harbour, then return along the same path. This is a longer promenade and parkland walk with views across the Loughor Estuary towards the north Gower coast. The route stays on the established shared path throughout, rather than using the beach or tidal flats.

Start at the public North Dock pay-and-display car park beside the Discovery Centre. Join the coastal path at the car park’s northern end and head west along the promenade. Continue over the landscaped railway landbridge by the Needle sculpture, then follow the signed Millennium Coastal Path past Festival Fields towards Pwll. Keep to the main shared path past the coastal ponds and the Pwll area, before it curves around Tywyn towards Burry Port. Turn around at the harbour-side path junction on the eastern side of the harbour. The lighthouse is visible across the harbour; this route does not include its pier. Retrace the same path to North Dock.

Most of the surface is firm and surfaced, with gentle rises including the railway landbridge. The distance makes this a substantial easy walk rather than a short stroll. Allow about 3 hours 45 minutes at a steady pace with brief stops. It is an open coast, so bring a windproof layer and water. The path is also used by cyclists; keep dogs under control and allow space when passing.

There are refreshments and toilets at the Discovery Centre, with further facilities around Burry Port subject to opening hours. North Dock parking is charged and has a four-hour maximum shown in the published parking information. Check the signs and allow enough time to return; use another official car park and adjust the walk if you need a longer stay. Stay away from harbour edges and do not enter the estuary mudflats. Check local notices before setting out.

Route and access information checked against Carmarthenshire County Council’s North Dock to Burry Port Millennium Coastal Path guide and whole route map, the council parking page, and the Wales Coast Path diversion notices on 4 October 2026.

Joining a walk

A few things to know before you make plans.

What if there is no date yet?

Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.

What does the organiser do?

The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.

Can I walk this route on my own?

Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.

What happens after I join?

Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.

How do I confirm plans with the group?

Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
