About this walk

Start at the walking-trail entrance on the east side of Jeskyns' main car park, off Henhurst Road. The yellow-marked Broomfield Loop links young woodland, grazing meadows, a viewpoint and Henhurst Lake. Allow about an hour and a quarter, including time at the viewpoint and lake.

Follow the yellow markers east from the car park, then south through Jeskyns Woods. Turn east at the trail junction and continue towards the open meadows. The small loop ahead climbs to the viewpoint, where the two tall sculptures make a useful landmark. Follow the yellow route back west towards the play area and Henhurst Lake. Walk around the west side of the lake, then take the northbound path back towards the cafe and car park. This circuit stays within the main woodland site; the Orchard Walk is a separate extension.

Most of the route is surfaced, but there are some steeper gradients, loose gravel and exposed sections. Shoes with grip are useful, particularly in wet weather. Leave room for cyclists on shared paths, keep back from the water and follow any temporary signs around the grazing meadows. Keep dogs on leads near livestock, around the cafe and wherever signs require it. Do not enter grazing enclosures to approach animals.

Paid parking uses card or RingGo, with no cash payments. Forestry England national members and Jeskyns members park free. There are toilets and a cafe serving takeaway drinks and snacks. Check their opening times separately from the site gates. The woodland opens at 7am, with seasonal closing times; October closing is 6pm. Finish in daylight.

Based on Forestry England's Broomfield Loop guide and full walking map, with visitor information checked on 3 October 2026.

Joining a walk

A few things to know before you make plans.

Can I join if no one else is going?

You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.

What if there is no date yet?

Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.

What does the organiser do?

The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.

Can I walk this route on my own?

Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.

What happens after I join?

Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.

How do I confirm plans with the group?

Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
