About this walk
From Cheddar village, follow the River Yeo out across the Levels and return through Stubbingham Drove, Middle Moor Lane and the Strawberry Line. The route is mostly flat, with open pasture, drainage channels and a quieter stretch of river beyond Hythe Bow. Allow about two and a half hours for the 8 km circuit, including the approach from the public car park.
Start at Church Street Car Park on Roynon Way, BS27 3NZ. This is a council pay-and-display car park; check the current tariff and notices. Walk west along Roynon Way to Church Street, turn right to the Market Cross, then head back down Church Street to Parsons Pen beside the Catholic church. Follow Parsons Pen to the old railway bridge and use the steps on its southwest side to reach the path beside the Yeo.
Keep along the south bank through the meadows. At Hythe Bow, cross the B3151 carefully and use the signed river path and stiles on the opposite side. Continue downstream past the intermediate metal footbridge without crossing it. At the farther farm bridge, cross the Yeo and turn onto Stubbingham Drove. Follow the drove east into Middle Moor Lane, then turn left along Sharpham Road. At Lower New Road, use the western path connection to the Strawberry Line and pass beneath the road bridge. Follow the former railway east through Valley Line Industrial Park, then return by Station Road and Bath Street to the Market Cross and the car park.
There are steps, gates and stiles, and the riverside ground can be muddy or overgrown. Wear boots, take care with nettles and leave farm gates as found. Keep dogs close around livestock and electric fences. The B3151 crossing needs particular care. The route is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Cheddar village has shops and places to eat before or after the walk.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
