About this walk
A complete circuit through Banagher Glen and Banagher Forest, using the higher return shown as option A in the published walking guide. Start at the public parking area at the end of Magheramore Road. Follow the surfaced access road into the wooded glen and take the left fork towards Banagher Dam. Continue beside Altnaheglish Reservoir, cross its upper river on the bridge and climb the forest tracks over the shoulder of Altnaheglish Hill. At the return junction, take the higher track towards Glenedra Water, cross the bridge downstream and descend to the original road and parking area.
This circuit is about 13 km; allow four and a half hours plus breaks. It includes several steep climbs and descents on tarmac and rough gravel tracks. The glen road has an unfenced steep drop beside it in places, so stay on the roadway and take care on wet or icy surfaces. Wear suitable footwear and carry waterproofs, food, water and a map, as the full forest circuit is not consistently waymarked.
The higher return uses a bridge and leaves out the longer southern loop with its unbridged stream crossing. Keep to the mapped circuit at track junctions. This is a working forest: watch for authorised vehicles, follow local forestry signs and do not pass a closed gate or work exclusion. Keep dogs under close control and respect the reserve's woodland and wildlife.
Parking and entry are free. Check the local gate notices before starting and return with daylight to spare; opening every day does not establish unrestricted overnight parking. Do not rely on toilets being available at the trailhead.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
