About this walk
A countryside circuit from Dalham Village Hall, following the chestnut avenue past St Mary's Church and the edge of Dalham Hall, then Beech Row into Brick Kiln Wood. The path crosses the woodland clearing known as The Lawns and emerges beside Desning Hall Barn before following the Icknield Way bridleway through open farmland. The return uses a short stretch of Denham Road, crosses the fields into Leipsic Wood and follows Beech Row back to the village. The old malt kiln beside The Street is another distinctive landmark.
Allow about 2 hours 45 minutes for the rolling ground, gates and short stops. Expect earth and grass paths, field edges, farm tracks and several small wooden or plank bridges. The woodland and cultivated-field sections can be muddy after rain. Take care on the short road sections, which have no continuous pavement, and give farm traffic room on shared tracks. This route is unsuitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
Use the free car park at Dalham Village Hall on The Street, CB8 8TF, as recommended by Discover Suffolk. Leave access clear for hall users and observe local signs. Carry water and food: there are no facilities along the countryside section. Keep dogs under close control around game birds and farmland, and stay on the signed public paths through the estate. The hall and houses are private properties; the route passes them from public paths.
Based on the Brick Kiln Wood and Desning Hall Barn circuit published by Dalham Parish Council and Suffolk County Council on Discover Suffolk. Check current signs and Suffolk's rights of way notices before setting out.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
