Very HardThis circular route takes in Lochnagar as well as four other Munros in the White Mounth range: Carn a' Choire Bhoidheach, Carn an t-Sagairt Mor, Cairn Bannoch, and Broad Cairn. Starting from the Spittal of Glen Muick car park, it follows the same start as the classic route but extends into a full-day adventure across high plateaus and ridgelines. A rewarding option for experienced walkers.
Lochnagar via Allt na Guibhsaich
HardThis less-frequented route begins at the Allt na Guibhsaich lodge, following a track through pine woodland before opening out into the upper reaches of the corrie. It provides an alternative ascent to Cac Carn Beag and is a great choice for those seeking a quieter day on the hill.
Lochnagar from Ballater via Loch Muick
Very HardThis extended route starts in Ballater and makes its way to Loch Muick before following the classic route to the summit. It adds significant distance and is ideal for those seeking a challenging, long day out in the mountains. It combines forest tracks, open moorland, and mountain paths.
Lochnagar Winter Ascent via Glas Allt
Very HardThis winter-specific route follows the same path as the classic route but requires extra caution due to snow and ice.
