About this walk

Follow the inland Camel Trail from Wadebridge to Boscarne Junction and return along the same route. The old railway formation leads through the wooded Camel Valley, with river views, the remains of Grogley Halt and the heritage railway at the far end. This is a substantial half-day walk on a largely level, maintained shared trail.

Start at the pedestrian exit of Egloshayle Playing Fields pay-and-display car park, off Egloshayle Road, PL27 7BY. Use the short footpath to Annekaโ€™s Bridge, cross into Jubilee Fields and turn left along the riverside path. At Guineaport Road, take care at the short road connection and join the Camel Trail signed towards Bodmin. Follow the main trail over the River Camel near Pendavey, beneath the stone bridge at Polbrock and through Grogley. Cross the lane at Nanstallon carefully through the trail gates, then continue to the trail beside Boscarne Junction station. Turn here and retrace the same trail and pedestrian bridge to the car park. Stay on the public trail; do not use the railway tracks or unofficial riverbank shortcuts.

Allow about 4 hours 20 minutes for the 15.6 km return walk, including brief pauses. The trail is shared with cyclists and occasionally horses. Keep dogs close and under control, leave room for passing users and close gates. Gravel and compacted surfaces can hold puddles after rain. Pay for sufficient parking time and check the signs on arrival. Toilets are available in Wadebridge; Boscarne station has no toilets. Refreshments near Nanstallon and heritage trains depend on opening times and the current railway timetable. Carry water and a snack.

Route and access checked against Cornwall Councilโ€™s Camel Trail map, Wadebridge Town Councilโ€™s public park and bridge information, and Bodmin Railwayโ€™s Boscarne access guidance. Check local notices before setting out.

Joining a walk

A few things to know before you make plans.

Can I join if no one else is going?

You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.

What if there is no date yet?

Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.

What does the organiser do?

The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.

Can I walk this route on my own?

Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.

What happens after I join?

Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.

How do I confirm plans with the group?

Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
