Rushcliffe Country Park: lake and meadow circuit

About this walk
A short 2 km circuit through Rushcliffe Country Park’s southern meadows, returning beside the lake. Allow about an hour for a gentle stroll with wildlife stops; steady walking without stops takes closer to half an hour. This is a useful option when you want an easy park walk with refreshments and toilets close to the start.
Begin inside the main Rushcliffe Country Park car park, accessed from Mere Way near Ruddington. Take the established path west from the car park, then turn south through the meadow and woodland edge. Follow the park’s southern paths east and return north towards the lake. The final section follows the western and northern lakeside paths back to the visitor facilities and car park. Keep to the plotted park paths rather than the adjacent business park or heritage railway grounds.
The terrain is gently rolling, with gravel and compacted paths and a short earth-surfaced section near the southern boundary. It can be wet or muddy after rain, so ordinary walking shoes with a good grip are sensible. The lake edge is open and unguarded. Give other walkers and cyclists room, and keep dogs on a lead around the lake and in the car park, as required by the council. Keep dogs under control elsewhere and follow local signs.
Entry to the park is free; the main car park is pay and display. Check the machine for the current tariff and gates for access times. Coffee and Cake by the Lake and toilets are near the start, with opening hours that vary by facility and season. A café or visitor-centre stop can comfortably fill the hour.
Route planning: the Rushcliffe Country Park section of Keyworth and District Footpaths Association’s local circular-walks guide, adapted to stay within the park. Current parking, facilities and dog rules were checked against Rushcliffe Borough Council’s visitor information: https://www.rushcliffe.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/rushcliffe-country-park/visiting-the-park/.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
