About this walk
Start at the National Trust car park at Llanerchaeron, near Ciliau Aeron. This countryside circuit links the estate woodland with the eastern edge of Aberaeron, returning through the wooded Aeron valley. Allow about 2 hours 45 minutes for the walk, with extra time if you also visit the house or gardens.
Leave the car park by the woodland footbridge over the Aeron. Follow the rising path through Allt Lan-las towards Lanlas, then the public paths through the fields towards Brynsythi and the lane near Cwm. A short lane section leads to the bridleway running west towards Aberaeron. At Ffordd y Goitre turn towards Bro Allt y Graig, then follow the public woodland path back past Allt Bryn-gwyn and Allt Wig-ddû. Keep to the signed route through the field junctions near Wig Wen. The return enters the estate woods and uses the same pedestrian bridge to reach the car park.
Expect natural woodland paths, grass, farm tracks, stiles, gates and short road sections. There is a sustained climb away from the valley, uneven ground and muddy sections after rain. This is a moderate country walk rather than an accessible garden circuit. Watch for vehicles on the lanes, leave gates as found and keep dogs on a short lead around grazing animals. Avoid riverside paths when flooded and follow any local closure signs.
The car park, visitor centre toilets and cafe provide the start facilities. National Trust parking charges and opening hours apply: the current property page lists £4 per car, with member parking benefits. Check the day’s car park closing time before setting off; woodland walking hours and the house and garden admission arrangements differ. The route stays outside the paid house and garden visit.
Route information checked against Ceredigion County Council’s Llanerchaeron circular map and the National Trust estate map and visitor information. This version uses the woodland pedestrian bridge beside the car park and the direct Ffordd y Goitre to Bro Allt y Graig connection. Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
