About this walk

This out and back walk from Lizard to Kynance Cove is one of the most visually rewarding stretches of coastline in the country. It is not long, but it is rich in colour, texture, and atmosphere, and it shows the Lizard Peninsula at its best.

Leaving the village, the path quickly settles into open coastal walking. The land here feels different to much of Cornwall, lower and smoother in places, with rare rocks and short turf giving the coastline a distinct character. The sea is almost always in view, shifting from deep blues to bright turquoise depending on the light, and the sense of exposure adds to the feeling that you are somewhere special.

The approach to Kynance Cove is the highlight. The cliffs break into jagged formations, the colours intensify, and the beach comes into view in stages rather than all at once. On a clear day, the contrast between white sand, dark rock, and vivid water is striking. It is an obvious place to stop, linger, and explore, though it can be busy in good weather.

After reaching the cove, the walk returns the same way. While this might sound repetitive, the reverse direction offers a different perspective, with new angles on the coastline and long views opening up behind you. The return leg feels calmer and more reflective, especially later in the day when the light softens and the crowds thin.

This is a walk that suits taking your time. It is about scenery rather than challenge, and about soaking up a unique coastal landscape rather than ticking off distance. In settled weather, it is hard to beat.
