Joining a Walk

Your questions, answered on joining a Walk

Walk dates showing, but showing no participants

Some walks have suggested dates. Feel free to join the walk and go first. Once someone has joined a walk, Walkmates will begin promoting the walk so others will join you.

If there's no organiser for the walk, you'll be invited to do it, but there's no obligation to.

There are no scheduled dates?

That's fine, and perfectly normal. If you're interested in this walk you can organise a date and get it moving. It's not always easy to go first, but it's not as scary as it sounds.

What does an organiser do?

The organiser should be a friendly face to talk with, and get things started on the day.

It's important to remember though, they're not responsible for you or your safety. They may or may not have walked the route themselves. Particularly in upland or remote areas, navigation, fitness, having lunch with you, and basically everything else, is your own responsibility

What is a Quick Walk?

A quick walk is a walk you can do right now, on your own. You'll get all history, the credit, you'll find the ghosts and have the same Walkmates experience, but without needing go as a group.

It's really good for short, lunchtime walks, especially if you find a ghost or two along the way

What can I expect nearer the walk date?

Once you've joined a walk, we'll send you a confirmation. As the walk gets closer, the organiser of the walk may give updates, such as weather conditions, meeting instructions, etc.

A week before the walk, we'll email you a reminder. Around 24 hours before a walk, we'll invite you to check in, which confirms to the organiser and others on the walk you'll be attending

Any other suggestions?

Especially on organiserless walks (suggested dates), we suggest you message and make contact with other walkers to make sure they're going, particularly when there are very few members joining.
