About this walk
A long woodland and moorland circuit above Blair Atholl, following Atholl Estates’ established Glen Banvie Trail. Walk out through Old Blair, climb beside the Banvie Burn and cross the open ground into the upper woods. A short return spur reaches the mapped viewpoint above the Falls of Bruar before the southern forest track brings you back through Baluain Wood. Allow a full day: this complete mapped walk measures about 17.2 km, longer than the estate leaflet’s 14.5 km headline. Expect rough tracks, wet patches, sustained climbing and exposed stretches. Follow orange trail arrows and any operational signs; keep away from steep riverbanks.
Start and parking: Use Glen Tilt Car Park near Old Bridge of Tilt, north of Blair Atholl, rather than Blair Castle visitor parking. Start at the mapped walking exit beside the route-board area. No overnight parking of cars, campervans or caravans is permitted. The daytime tariff and gate hours were not verified; check signs and do not assume parking is free.
Route and terrain: Follow the orange Glen Banvie walking arrows through Old Blair, Banvie Woods and the open moor, then through the upper pine woods and back by Baluain Wood. The line includes the repeated Old Blair approach and an approximately 1.111 km return spur to the documented woodland viewpoint above the Falls of Bruar. It does not descend to every falls bridge or reach the House of Bruar complex. Expect rough or wet forest tracks and paths, sustained climbing and exposed upper ground. Around 1.75 km in total uses minor access roads; watch for traffic. Keep away from steep riverbanks.
Dogs and operational access: Dogs are welcome under control. Keep dogs on leads in Glen Banvie during April–July grouse nesting, use short leads or close control around livestock, and avoid fields with young animals. Forestry and estate operations may close paths; follow signed diversions or turn back. The estate asks walkers to stay on main paths during stag stalking, 1 August–20 October; deer management and other restrictions can also apply outside those dates. Published 2026 rifle-range notices concern the Glen Tilt through-track east of this circuit and do not establish that Banvie paths are open.
Distance and time: The full mapped circuit with the viewpoint spur measures 17.222 km, while the estate leaflet headline says 14.5 km. Independent comparison retained its complete map alignment, including the southern Baluain return and Old Blair access. Without the viewpoint spur the mapped route still measures about 16.111 km; the discrepancy is unresolved. Plan for 17.2 km and 5–6 hours walking, plus breaks. This timing and Moderate grade are editorial estimates, and a reliable total ascent was not established.
Detailed route sources were checked on 22 October 2026; the current estate walking information was rechecked on 23 October. No named Banvie closure was found there. This is desk research, not a same-day gate or path inspection. Check current notices, weather and ground conditions before setting out. No all-weather or wheelchair-accessibility guarantee is made.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
