About this walk
A 3.4 km circuit from Beacon Hill’s lower car park, combining woodland paths with the open hilltop and its views across Charnwood. Allow about an hour and a half for the climb, the summit area and a leisurely return. The park is a popular local walking place, with volcanic rock outcrops, grazing animals and woodland around the hillside.
Start at the lower car park off Breakback Road, Woodhouse Eaves, LE12 8TA. Take the walking paths west into the park and climb through the northern woodland towards the hilltop. Follow the established paths around the summit rocks and viewpoint, then descend southeast through the park. Continue on the southern woodland paths above Beacon Road and turn north to return to the lower car park. The circuit stays within the country park and does not require a crossing of Beacon Road or a visit to neighbouring Broombriggs Farm.
Expect a mixture of broad surfaced paths, compacted tracks and narrower earth or grass paths near the hilltop. Several sections climb or descend steeply; wet rocks, mud and roots can be slippery. Use the walking paths around the outcrops without scrambling over the rocks. The open hilltop can feel windy even when the woods are sheltered. Keep dogs closely controlled and use a lead around grazing cattle, sheep and alpacas. Give animals plenty of space and share the wider trails carefully with cyclists and horse riders.
Parking is charged. The lower car park accepts contactless payments; check the current tariff and signs on arrival. Gates have seasonal times, with the operator currently listing October entry hours of 7am to 6pm and shorter winter hours. Check the closing notice and finish with time to spare. Toilets and Beacon Hill Kitchen & Deli are near the lower car park, subject to their opening hours.
Based on Leicestershire Country Parks’ Beacon Hill walking map and current visitor guidance, using established park paths from the lower car park. Follow current waymarkers and any ranger notices on the day.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?

What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
