About this walk

A relaxed 4.4 km circuit through Battersea Park, bringing together the boating lake, woodland garden paths, the bandstand and the Peace Pagoda beside the Thames. Allow about 1 hour 45 minutes with stops for the waterbirds and river views. Most of the route is paved, with some gravel paths, gentle slopes and a small wooden footbridge.

Start just inside Rosery Gate, at the junction of the park drives near the south-east entrance. Turn into the lake paths and follow the eastern shore north. Continue around the northern water towards the Pump House, then cross the small footbridge and follow the western garden paths south towards Alexandra Gate. Take Carriage Drive South west, turn north along Carriage Drive West, and take the broad diagonal avenue towards the bandstand. From there, follow the garden paths north to the Peace Pagoda and Thames promenade. Walk east along the river, then take the park path south and rejoin Carriage Drive East for the return to Rosery Gate.

The route stays within the park. Look out for bicycles and authorised vehicles on the carriage drives, and use the pavements where provided. Wooden surfaces and fallen leaves can be slippery after rain; keep children close beside the lake. Enjoy the waterbirds without feeding them. Dog restrictions apply in parts of the park, including around the pagoda and some gardens, so check the council's dog-control map and signs before bringing a dog.

Entry is free, with paid parking near Rosery Gate and cafes and toilets in the park, subject to opening hours. Battersea Park and Queenstown Road stations are nearby. Plan this walk in daylight and check Enable's event notices: ordinary park access closes early for the fireworks on 7 and 8 November 2026, with restrictions possible during setup. Route and visitor information are based on Enable's complete park map and Wandsworth Council's guidance.

Joining a walk

A few things to know before you make plans.

Can I join if no one else is going?

You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.

What if there is no date yet?

Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.

What does the organiser do?

The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.

Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.

Can I walk this route on my own?

Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.

What happens after I join?

Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.

How do I confirm plans with the group?

Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
