About this walk

This is a short circular walk starting and finishing in Drewton, taking in quiet lanes, farm tracks and the wooded slopes of Drewton Dale. It’s an easy half-day outing rather than a big challenge, with gentle ups and downs and no sustained climbs.

From the village, the route follows the road west for a short stretch before turning north onto a footpath that climbs steadily onto Drewton Wold. The ascent is gradual rather than steep, but you do gain height fairly quickly, so it’s noticeable underfoot. Once on the wold, the walking is straightforward, mostly on clear tracks with open views across the surrounding countryside.

The route then drops into Drewton Dale, a narrow, wooded valley that feels sheltered and quieter than the open farmland above. Paths here can be muddy after wet weather, particularly in the bottom of the dale, but they’re easy to follow. The woodland section is the highlight of the walk, especially in spring or autumn.

After passing through the dale, the walk loops back towards the village, crossing farmland and returning along a mix of tracks and quiet roads. The final stretch is easy walking back into Drewton.

Overall, this is a good local walk if you want something short and varied, with a mix of open views and woodland, without committing to a long day out. Sensible footwear is recommended, especially if it’s been wet.
