About this walk
Plan a walk at Draycote Water with the route map and current access advice. The full reservoir loop is closed during upgrade works.
Current access
Severn Trent's official closure notice confirms that there is no way through the construction area. You can use an open section of the perimeter route, but must turn back at the closure and return the way you came. Check the operator's closure map and signs on site before setting off.
Access advice checked on 29 September 2026. Severn Trent expects the dam works to finish by late 2026; that is an estimate, so check for a reopening announcement before planning a complete circuit.
Distance and route map
The map on this page records the usual reservoir loop from the visitor centre. Its 4.7-mile distance (7.6 km) and two-hour estimate describe that mapped route, rather than a currently available uninterrupted circuit. Choose your distance to match the open section, allowing for the return along the same path.
What to expect
The reservoir paths offer open water views and opportunities to watch the birdlife. Check the Draycote Water accessibility guide for surfaces and gradients when choosing a section that suits you. Follow all barriers and access signs.
Dogs are not permitted on the reservoir perimeter walk except working guide dogs or guide dogs in training, as set out in the official accessibility guide.
Walking with other people
If you organise a walk here, explain the closure to the group and agree the shorter route, distance and meeting point beforehand. You can find walking partners or browse other walking routes near you.

Joining a walk
A few things to know before you make plans.
Can I join if no one else is going?
You can be the first to join a scheduled walk. A suggested date is an idea for a group walk; choose Set this date up to organise it. Check the participant list and meeting details before setting off.
What if there is no date yet?
Choose Put a date on this walk to organise a group walk. Not ready to choose a day? Follow the route for scheduling updates, or save it for later.
What does the organiser do?
The organiser sets the date and meeting details and helps the group get started. They are a fellow walker and may be new to the route too.
Each walker is responsible for their own safety and navigation. Check the route, weather, equipment and whether the walk suits your experience and fitness.
Can I walk this route on my own?
Yes. Choose Walk this route on your own to open the start screen, then start when you are ready. Finish the walk to add it to your walking history. You do not need a group date.
What happens after I join?
Use the walk page to check meeting details, updates and who is going. Check in from 24 hours before the start to let the group know you still plan to come.
How do I confirm plans with the group?
Check the participant list and check-ins, and message the organiser or other walkers to confirm where to meet and who is coming. This is especially useful when the group is small.
