At the summit, you'll find a prominent cairn and stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Blackstairs Mountains and rolling countryside.
Camenabologue consists primarily of Old Red Sandstone, giving the mountain its distinctive reddish hue. The weathered rocks and boulders create a rugged yet picturesque backdrop for hikers.
On a clear day, you can spot the Wicklow Mountains to the north, and the River Barrow winding its way through the valleys.
The name Camenabologue is thought to derive from the Irish 'Cam an Atha Bólta', meaning 'the bend of the mouth of the ford', reflecting its geographical significance.
The mountain has been a part of local folklore and history, serving as a natural marker for generations of travellers.
A popular circuit starting from the East and leading up through scenic landscapes.
Parking can be found at the Kildavin Bridge, approximately 5 km from the trailhead. Limited spaces available but it's free!
Buses run from Carlow to Bunclody, which is about 10 km away. A longer, albeit picturesque, walk will get you to the trailhead.
No facilities on the mountain itself, but you can find a café and public toilets in Bunclody.
