ModerateThis classic route begins at Overbeck Bridge on the western side of Wastwater. From the car park, follow the clear path towards the base of Yewbarrow. The climb starts steeply on the southern ridge, known as Bell Rib, offering stunning views of Wastwater below. Once the summit is reached, enjoy panoramic views of the Scafell range before descending via the same route.
Yewbarrow and Red Pike Circular
ChallengingStart at Wasdale Head and head towards Overbeck Bridge before taking the steep path up the southern ridge of Yewbarrow. After summiting Yewbarrow, continue along the ridge to Dore Head. From here, ascend to Red Pike via the scree path. Descend Red Pike towards Mosedale and follow the valley path back to Wasdale Head. This circular route combines dramatic ascents with rewarding ridge walking.
Yewbarrow North Ridge Scramble
HardFor experienced walkers seeking a more adventurous route, start at Wasdale Head and ascend the northern ridge of Yewbarrow. This route involves some scrambling and offers a more direct, steep ascent with rewarding views. After reaching the summit, descend via the southern ridge for a balanced and exhilarating day out.
Yewbarrow via Stirrup Crag
HardThis route starts at Overbeck Bridge and follows the southern ridge to the summit of Yewbarrow. After reaching the summit, descend to Dore Head and take the challenging scramble up Stirrup Crag. This adds a technical element to the walk and is best suited for those with scrambling experience. Return via the same route to Overbeck Bridge.
Yewbarrow Linear Walk from Wasdale Head
ModerateStart at Wasdale Head and follow the valley path towards Dore Head. Ascend Yewbarrow from its northern ridge, enjoying expansive views of Wastwater and the surrounding peaks. Once at the summit, descend via the southern ridge to Overbeck Bridge. This linear route offers a satisfying blend of valley walking and ridge climbing.
